What Is An Arch Fault Circuit Interrupter?
February 14, 2009 by Katie

In simplified terms the function of an Arch Fault Circuit Interrupter is to detect the arching of electrical cords. This arching has caused multiple house fires. The Circuit Interrupter trips when the breaker detects arching from the hot wire to the neutral wire. If this arching is not interrupted it will heat the wire to the point that it could start a fire.
Texas Home Inspectors will now be required to test all electrical breakers to see if they are Arch Fault Circuit Interrupter Protected. On Home Inspection Reports it is now mandatory for the Texas Home Inspectors to note the Breaker as Deficient if it is not Arch Fault Protected.
